Agreed, as I have experienced both ways. My only character that could not spawn Thackeray was my rit, who has neither done the Wintersday quests nor finished EotN, as he was created after Wintersday Redux.

However, I was able to send him into the HoM in the party of a storage character on another account who had done the Wintersday quests. The rit listened to all the dialogs with the other character, and was then able to speak to Thackeray outside HoM to begin the scavenger hunt. So it is possible to piggyback a character who can't get Thackeray to appear.

Is anyone willing to let me piggy-back this? I've done it will all of my characters, not thinking that my brother's account might not be able to do it. Sure enough, only 2 of his 9 can do it, and I'm not really sure I want to play everything through for him.

Try guild members, that's how did my last char (forgot that he didn't have the prerequisites and did my other account's char earlier

). Make sure you watch 'all' conversations, starting with the one that starts with "Somehow I knew I'd find you in here, Gwen."

I tried this on the first day with my 2nd account (1st having activated Thack outside EoTN). He does appear but neither of my accounts could interact with him.

Interesting to see if others have experienced this.

That's because as I said, you need to watch all dialogues for him to talk to you. If you piggyback just some of the dialogues or just go outside with someone who has spawned him, you cannot interact with him. You need to watch all 6 dialogues.

piggy backing works. a guildie hadnt done it yet on his rt he invited me and we watched ALL the dialogs and spawned thackeray outside together. i was able to get my gifts. xD

No, not really yet, but we don't know if the scavenger hunt will eventually become unobtainable or not. I doubt they would take it out if it is a pre-requisite for anything else important that will come in the future, but you never know. It takes like 5-10 minutes tops. People sell the stuff in packs in Eye of the North, so it's usually one stop shopping. The only thing that takes time is waiting out the convos between Gwen and Thackery.

got the quest. My char didn't the wintersday quest, so o need for it. I didn't finish Prophecies either. I finished EOTN.

And maybe this sounds crazy, but when I went to HoM with heroes , Thackeray didn't appear, but when I went alone (no heroes , henchs or players) he appeared.

Only one guild member left, and he only uses one character, so unfortunately that still leaves 6 to do. I will farm drake flesh for anyone willing to take my brother's account with them.

Nope, there isn't really a hint for anything new stemming from the scavenger hunt, aside from Thackeray mentioning to Gwen that her "birthday was next week."

Well there is the fact that there is a dude that has the last name Thackeray in GW2. I am guessing this is He and Gwen's distant relative. Seems to me, between this and the Mantle/Blade fight that is a brewing, we are in for some real cool stuff over the course of this year. Alos there was menton of a "cataclysmic event" in GW1 that would tie things up into GW2. I am also hoping that ANET gives us some info finally on what bonuses our statues in our HoM will confer upon our GW2 account soon.

I'm thinking that there is more to come from this whole Thackery/Gwen thing. I wouldn't be surprised at all if more stuff gets added as the month goes by, leading up to something on the 5th year anniversary. (they did talk about the anniversary of the searing, after all)

Only one thing to do in the meantime: Take a relaxed attitude towards the whole thing and play on!

HA! I was right...either complete eye or wintersday quests

though---I think that the next thing is going to be the garden where thacky is going to try and take gwen to....and since I dont think his picnic is working (the dialog after you give him all of what he asks for)...that will be where we are headed next---it is his 'back-up plan' and I hope that everyone will be able to do it without having to have had all the items for his picnic since not everyone saved up apple cider (or want to buy it off others from exorbitant prices since its not available any other way than thanksgiving drops).

I still have a few more characters working on the candles, so I hope they keep this up for a few more days (doing hunters pride, which requires blood washes blood....which requires me to get my mule characters to sifhalla and do curse of the nornbear...)

Hmm? Apple cider is not a mandatory ingredient, it's just the preferred one (you only need one instead of three non-preferred items and get better? junk in exchange). I had given away all my cider and cupcakes so instead lt. Thackeray got 3 Hunter's Ales, 3 Pumpkin Cookies, 1 Drake Kabob and the candles from Munne and that triggered the (at the moment) final scene of the quest.

I still think that Thackeray should've asked for some charr hides instead and suggested Gwen to do some kinky S/M stuff to exorcise her ghosts
